Speak it! Text to Speech App Reviews

Bonne lecture malgré des imperfections

Fonctionne uniquement en anglais. The voices are good. The pronounciation is easy to follow. One can paste long texts and then listen to them. Some annoyances: often mispronounces dont or s. For instance: "Larrys idea" is pronounced Larry -pause- S -pause- idea. But the app is quite useful and reasonably priced.

Cool but no french voice !

Add a french voice and it Will be perfect.

Lie

It does not what it says it does. It does not load pdf files. You need to convert everythin into text files and do a stupid copy and paste. Imagine doing that for a 300 pg pdf file. I want my money back.

Its work but is freez any time

Is very good audio voice, but when you say one thing is freez and you go back to iPhone main menu!

Great!

Clearly the best text to speech ap (and I bought at least 4 other aps). Almost real person like voice reading the text. A kind of safari internet browser to allow direct web to speech should be privided with the next update. Switching between aps is kind of uncomfortable. Also sometimes the ap crashes when you put in long text. Still, a great ap worth 5 stars.

Whats the use

I dont get the point of this

Bought for my son

I bought this for my non-verbal step son. It has allowed him the independance to go anywhere and ask for what he needs and wants. Thanks-you for developing this, it has opened many new doors to independance. My only issue is the need for a cedit card instead of an itunes card (in Canada). This should be explained and advertised more.

Amazing, Incredible, Awesome....

All the above. I was goofing around with AT&Ts Natural Voices on the web (needed to create some CBT modules for work). But, fortunately, I found this thing almost as soon as I bought my iPad. It blows away that Natural Voices thing (which I though was great at first). This little $1.99 investment pretty much justifies the iPad purchase. It comes with 4 built-in voices (American and UK). But, you can buy extra accents for .99). You can copy text out of any doc (including PDFs) and away you go. The quality of the voices makes it possible to create your own Audio Books if you wanted. Yep, Im pretty sure this will become the Text-To-Speech standard. Hmmm...I wonder if theyd consider a version for the PC? No matter, stuff like this has made me reconsider my PC interest in general. Ha!

Did not Work

I found this program did not work on my iPhone even after resetting the iPhone. I tried several times with short and long sentences, pressed "speak it" button and nothing was said by any of the 4 option voices. The sound did work in the recorder that came with the iPhone. I do not recommend this app.

Potential

I was really excited about this app on discovering it. And in regards to its voice quality it is truly the best I have heard. however it is missing some very necessary upgrades to reach its true potential. It needs to have a link to other Programs (like good reader ) so that files in those apps can be "opened in" speak it. Or there needs to be a way to import files. While the copy function does work, I have not found a way to past a whole document. With that feature I would give it a five star. Without it, it seems more like a toy.

Nice but unstable

Great little TTS app for iPhone - something I thought Id never find. However, it seems to crash quite a lot when switching voices too much. Worth the money, I found.

not worth 2.99

its good but should be free borring and they expect you to buy voices who cares about a voice NOT ME!

Only one thing missing

This app is flawless! the voices arent have robotic and have real, they sound perfect. The one thing I really wish it had the normal Microsoft Sam/robot voice. As much as the current voices are, i would give this app five stars for that voice

Cantenna

Thank you for the upadate. This is one of my favoite apps for my ipad. ipad has turned into a bit of a wonder tool for learning and this app contributes alot to that. Great app guys! Thanks

Great app

I thought it was a really great app, but it absolutely fails at updating.

Be-ware..Dont bother buying voices

The updates and voices are CRAP!!! the purchased voices do not install properly and dont work even with the new update in august 2010. What a waste of time dislodging a huge 90mb file that doesnt work !!! So pissed off!!

Its great! No wait, its not...

The text-to-speech works very well, with the male british voice seeming to give the best pronunciation. I wanted to use it as a book reader, and after laboriously pasting half a chapter in (a paragraph or two at a time) it did a beautiful job reading it. If ONLY you could make this app access text files, email, bookreaders, ANYTHING, itd be worth $20! Ad it is now, its mostly a toy.

Saving my life

I use this application to paste in the text of my lectures so I can listen to them on my two hour commute beforehand. I find it a helpful tool in committing ideas to memory. It is kind of tricky to get the text in (I email it to myself, copy and paste it into Speak It right from my iPhone), but it is worth the effort!

Outright False Advertising

cannot imagine that they can actually say the app reads emails. it cannot read an email, it reads only whatever is typed or pasted into a box on top of the app.
